What is the Wilkin County Healthy Communities/Healthy Youth Initiative?

The Wilkin County Healthy Communities/Healthy Youth Initiative is made up of county-wide representatives from schools, public health, law enforcement, the faith-based community, the medical and psychological healing communities, interested community people, Community Ed., park/recreation people, just about anyone interested in improving the quality of life for children, youth and families in Wilkin County.

Much of what you will see here is based on research findings from the Search Institute, a research and social-action group based in Minneapolis. Search asked hundreds of thousands of teens all over our country for ideas of what helped keep youth out of trouble, what helped get youth out of trouble and what helped youth thrive. The result is 40 Developmental Assets.

Assets are building blocks that are essential to a young person's developmental success. Asset building is any relationship, experience or opportunity that contributes to the development of healthy, responsible, caring adults.
